Director, Corporate Communications

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS are listed in order of importance

  1. Manages strategic corporate communications function, ensuring alignment of messaging and “voice” across all organizational stakeholder communications. Works closely with the broader Communications and senior leadership teams to execute the external, corporate communications strategy to bring the company’s mission and vision to life.

  2. Collaborates with CEO and Senior Vice President, Business Affairs (and work alongside VP, Global Communications) to develop a comprehensive communications strategy to educate civic leaders, business community and L.A. residents about travel & tourism’s significant contribution to the local economy. Identifies and curates appropriate speaking engagements for senior leadership team and Board members to generate support and advocacy for our industry across the community.

  3. In support of items 1 & 2, develops communication plans, content and messaging, and prepares talking points, speeches, presentations and other supporting material for senior leadership team and Board members as necessary. Monitors quality, accuracy and consistency of communications materials.

  4. Performs media relations activities including cultivating positive relationships with key reporters and business, consumer and trade outlets relevant to the organization’s mission. Develops and pitches effective story angles and adjusts approach based on evolving market conditions. Coordinates and, as necessary, staffs press trips.

  5. Supports Vice President, Global Communications on issues and crisis management. Maintains organization’s crisis communications plan.

  6. Partners with CEO and Vice President, Human Resources (alongside VP, Global Communications) to develop comprehensive employee communications strategy to keep staff engaged and informed.

  7. Budget management.

  • Support the Sales Division's overall goals by translating data into actionable strategies. Primary sales administrator for the Simpleview CRM system, lead distribution systems including Cvent and other sales systems. Make certain these technology platforms support the Sales Divisions strategies for success with reliable data and accurate reporting. Advise on the enforcement of process and procedures related to ensuring data integrity including staff training. Manage the performance of Sales Operations Coordinator ensuring engagement and execution supporting these efforts.

  • Provide business intelligence and strategic solutions to Sales Leadership to grow future sales opportunities. Create and present analysis to be shown in regular presentations to key stakeholders. Manage data resources including MDI, FuturePace, MINT and STR data to provide opportune group booking scenarios, priorities and recommendations toward achieving booking goals. Design charts and infographics using creative tools including Tableau Software and Visme that are easy to understand and provide a clear call to action working with sales marketing. Seek opportunities to collaborate with other Divisions on business intelligence best practices.

  • Analyze current technologies to confirm need and address any inefficiencies. Evaluate, identify, and develop new solutions that are deemed innovative and lower barriers in the selling process. Recommend changes and enhancements to the Simpleview CRM system and other prospecting tools to meet the needs of the Sales Division. Execute Lead Catcher responsibilities and conduct Citywide Audits. Calculate Economic Impact for groups working with Tourism Analytics.

  • Primary Citywide Convention facilitator ensures all convention space is blocked and managed accurately and timely in the Ungerboeck System (EBMS) matching Simpleview. Work alongside Convention Center Sales VP to target prospects based on specific criteria addressing both the needs of the Center and hotel community. Additionally, manage the Convention Center License packet process to ensure accuracy and timely delivery. Work with Tourism Insights Department to deliver accurate data required to perform DI Economic Impact Calculations for Citywide Conventions during the time periods of LOI and post-convention audit. Similarly, support the TMD focused initiatives of the Hotel Sales VP with efforts to maximize deployment of sellers by identifying target markets through lead and booking data.

  • Oversee delivery of valuable monthly reports to Members and Lead Hotels including the Citywide Convention Calendar, Citywide Compression Report, FuturePace Reports and the Convention and Event Calendar. Collaborate with Membership to strengthen the relationship with hotel partners to demonstrate their member benefits via tools such as the Extranet and Hotel Scorecard. Address related hotel members requests for market research and sales data, vetting with SVP Sales prior to sending requests.

  • Collaborate with Tourism Insights Department to deliver sales team updates on destination conditions including hotel development, airport statistics and overall economic conditions. Work with Sales Marketing to create data visualizations and infographics that better communicate to customers and stakeholders sales key performance indicators (KPIs) in a straightforward manner. Continue to update collateral to reflect the current market landscape including the hotel development maps.

  • OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in weekly Sales Team calls to provide updates on Sales Operations initiatives and assist with client requests. Additionally, oversee monthly Licensing call to ensure LACC and Los Angeles Tourism are working together to promptly license Citywide bookings. Collaborate with the Citywide Convention Sales VP on developing Quarterly DTLA DOSM Meetings to review develop aggressively prospects and strengthen the hotel community commitment for Citywide business.

  • Provide data and analysis ad-hoc for special projects, meetings and stakeholder presentations. Examples include TAP Pace Report, Lost Business Analysis report, Bookings YOY analysis and comparative analysis. Following guidance of the Sales SVP, annually deliver data required for the Sales Strategic Business Plan.

  • Grow and maintain industry professional relationships that add value to the Sales Division operations and/or goal achievements. Attend industry conferences that increase knowledge and foster growth such as Simpleview Summit and STR Hotel Data Conference. Seek further professional development opportunities by being a Member of the DMO Market Analyst Professionals (MAP)s Group and the Simpleview CRM User Group.
